REAR ADMIRAL DAVID F. STEINDLCommander, Naval Service Training CommandA native of Stillwater, Okla., Rear Admiral Steindl graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics Rear Admiral Steindl's assignments at sea include Damage Control Assistant and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS CROMMELIN (FFG 37), Propulsion Plant Examiner for the Pacific Fleet Propulsion Examining Board, Engineer Officer in USS COWPENS (CG 63), Executive Officer in USS ROSS (DDG 71), Commanding Officer in USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53), and Commander, Destroyer Squadron 7. During his Commander command tour, JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) was awarded the 2001 Spokane Trophy and the 2001/2002 USS ARIZONA Memorial Trophy. He served as Sea Combat Commander during Ronald Reagan Strike Group's maiden deployment to the Arabian Gulf. He has completed one Mediterranean and six Western Pacific/Arabian Gulf deployments, including Tomahawk Land Attack Missile strikes in support of Operations Southern Watch, Allied Force/Noble Anvil, and Enduring Freedom. Ashore, Rear Admiral Steindl served as Flag Aide to the Commander in Chief U.S. Pacific Fleet, Assistant Captain Detailer in the Surface Officer Distribution Division, Special Actions Division Chief in the Operations Directorate of the Joint Staff, Executive Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Installations and Environment), and Director of the Surface Officer Distribution Division (PERS 41). Rear Admiral Steindl holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College where he graduated with highest distinction. Rear Admiral Steindl's personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (3), Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4), Navy Commendation Medal (4), and Navy Achievement Medal (3). |
